Trivium adalah sebuah band Metalcore & heavy metal terpopuler dari Orlando, Florida, Amerika Serikat yang terbentuk pada tahun 1999. Di bawah perusahaan rekaman Roadrunner Records, mereka telah merilis delapan album studio dan dua puluh enam video musik. Album terbaru mereka yang berjudul The Sin and the Sentence telah dirilis pada 20 Oktober 2017. Trivium telah menjual lebih dari 1 juta album di seluruh dunia dan dinominasikan Grammy untuk lagu "Betrayer" pada 61st Annual Grammy Awards in 2019 for the Best Metal Performance. Salah satu lagu terbaik Trivium paling terkenal adalah yang berjudul In Waves. Awal Mula terbentuk pada sebuah talent show, Matt Heafy menampilkan cover dari lagu The Offspring yang berjudul "Self Esteem". Vokalis Brad Lawter memperhatikan Heafy dan memintanya untuk audisi di bandnya. Mereka berdua datang ke rumah drummer Travis Smith dan memainkan lagu metallica "For Whom The Bell Tolls". Terkesan dengan penampilan Matt Heafy, mereka menerimanya bergabung dengan Trivium. Setelah beberapa penampilan mereka di bar dan klub lokal, Lewter mengundurkan diri dan Heafy menggantikan posisinya sebagai vokalis. Pada awal 2003, Mereka merekam demo pertama mereka. Kopi dari demo tersebut didengar olen perusahaan rekaman Jerman, Lifeforce, yang akhirnya mengontrak mereka. Trivium akhirnya masuk studio untuk merekam album pertama mereka, Ember to Inferno. Gaya bermusik TRIVIUM telah digambarkan sebagai band metal yang berat, dan lebih khusus lagi sebagai metalcore, thrash metal, metal progresif, death metal melodi dan groove metal. Musik Trivium mencampur "melonjak" dan "menghancurkan" riff, harmoni gitar ganda, pola drum bass ganda dan blast beats sesekali dan breakdown yang biasa ditampilkan dari genre metalcore. Vokalis Trivium menggabungkan keduanya secara bersamaan, nyanyian dengan scream/jeritan yang tinggi dan growl. Trivium adalah salah satu gelombang baru yang terkenal dari tindakan heavy metal Amerika atau New Wave of American Heavy Metal (NWOAHM). Gaya mereka telah berevolusi selama bertahun-tahun: dari pekerjaan awal mereka di Ember to Inferno tepat sampai In Waves, ada pengaruh thrash yang jelas dari Metallica dan Machine Head, serta beberapa awal In Flames. Setelah merilis album kedua, Ascendancy, Trivium diidentifikasi sebagai metalcore melodi dengan elemen kuat dari thrash metal, dengan trek ketiga di album "Pull Harder on the Strings of Your Martyr" menjadi perlengkapan permanen di daftar set band dan sisa album yang menjual dirinya ke status emas. Ascendancy bahkan tampil sebagai salah satu album Metal Hammer dari dekade ini. Album The Crusade dipandang sebagai pergeseran utama arah musik karena perubahan gaya vokal, yaitu tidak adanya teriakan, dan beberapa melodi yang ditampilkan. The Crusade adalah album yang berorientasi lebih ke Thrash Metal dan konten liris juga berbeda, mengutip urusan terkini, seperti pembunuhan yang terkenal. Pada musim gugur 2008, Trivium merilis Shogun, yang memiliki pengaruh Jepang yang berat di jalur judulnya serta rilis tunggal pertama "Kirisute Gomen", yang diterjemahkan ke "authorization to cut and leave". Mengakui warisan Jepang Matt Heafy, album Shogun juga digambarkan lebih baik karena lebih banyak gaya mereka sendiri, seperti referensi sebelumnya untuk hal-hal sepele seperti Metallica telah dibuat dibelakang album The Crusade. The Crusade memuat penggunaan gitar tujuh senar, yang ditampilkan dengan berat di Shogun. Gitar tujuh senar sekali lagi dikembalikan di album Silence in the Snow dan The Sin and the Sentence. Tema lirik lagu di album The Crusade meliputi pembunuhan terkenal. "Entrance of the Conflagration" adalah tentang pembunuhan Andrea Yates dari kelima anaknya, lagu "Unrepentant" adalah tentang pembunuhan Nazir Ahmad dari tiga anak perempuan dan anak tirinya, "Contempt Breeds Contamination" adalah tentang kematian Amadou Diallo, dan dalam lagu "And Sadness Will Sear" didasarkan pada pembunuhan Matthew Shepard. Banyak lagu di Shogun menggambar inspirasi liriknya dari mitologi Yunani. Lagu "Into the Mouth of Hell We March" dan "Torn Between Scylla and Charybdis" detail cerita tentang Odiseus memilih apakah akan menghadapi raksasa whirlpool Charybdis atau monster enam kepala Scylla. Lagu "He Who Spawned the Furies" adalah tentang Titan Cronos yang melahap anak-anaknya dan mengembalikan ayahnya Uranus, menciptakan Aphrodite dan a (the Furies). "Of Prometheus and the Crucifix" mengacu pada siksaan harian Prometheus dan penyihir untuk penyaliban Yesus. Lagu "Like Callisto to a Star in Heaven" ditulis dari perspektif Callisto Nymph, merinci pemerkosaan dan impregnasinya oleh Zeus dan transformasi-nya ke dalam beruang dan masuk ke Ursa Major. Konten liris pada The Sin and the Sentence terinspirasi oleh aspek kehidupan modern, seperti media sosial dan kecerdasan buatan serta tema umum seperti perang, sejarah dan agama.
